In cubing, an "average" is a speedcuber's average time from a set of 5 solves, so not across their entire lifetime of solves. However, an average in cubing is not the same as cubing in math. In speedcubing, the best and worst times are removed when calculating for the average. Then, the remaining three times would be added up and divided by 3. Averages in cubing are used to determine winners at Rubik's Cube competitions.
